Attijariwafa Bank Joins Swift Payments Scheme for Faster Transfers
Attijariwafa Bank announced on Monday in Casablanca that it has joined the Swift Payments Scheme, an initiative aimed at speeding up international transfers and boosting their transparency for customers.
Attijariwafa Bank announced on Monday, September 7, 2026 in Casablanca, that it has joined the "Swift Payments Scheme", an initiative launched by the global financial messaging cooperative Swift to transform the cross-border payments experience worldwide, built around three pillars: speed, predictability and transparency at every stage of the transaction, from sending to receiving.
The move continues the Moroccan bank's long-standing relationship with the Swift ecosystem: Attijariwafa Bank was, back in 2020, the first Moroccan bank to be certified SWIFT gpi (Global Payment Innovation), a system designed to strengthen the traceability and transparency of international payments.
What changes for customers
Through this move, the bank aims to offer individual and corporate clients faster, more reliable international transfers, with the benefits progressively extended to a growing number of clients and payment corridors over the coming months, as part of strengthening its position in cross-border payments.
Tarik Irrou, Group Payments Manager at Attijariwafa Bank, said: "International payments are of crucial importance to our clients, and for that reason we are firmly committed to offering them the best possible quality of service in this area."
Why this matters for Moroccans
Improving the international payments system carries particular weight for Morocco, which relies heavily on remittances from Moroccans living abroad, one of the country's main sources of foreign currency. Any acceleration or simplification of these transfers directly affects how quickly funds reach beneficiaries inside Morocco, while also strengthening the Moroccan banking sector's standing within the international payments system.
