Morocco has strengthened its position as the first supplier of fresh raspberry fruits to the British market, after its exports during the 2025-2026 season reached a record level of 18,400 tons, an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the previous agricultural season. The rise came at a time when the UK's overall imports of this fruit have fallen, according to data published on Monday by the international platform EastFruit, which specializes in analyzing fruit and vegetable markets. Market share exceeds 62 percent Figures reveal Morocco's position in the British market has evolved significantly over recent years. Its examination of Britain's imports of raspberries jumped from 21.3 per cent during the 2020-2021 season to 62.9 per cent in the 2025-2026 season, meaning that the volume of Moroccan exports doubled 2.6 times in five consecutive seasons. Morocco has thus turned from a secondary supplier to the main exporter of this fruit in the British market, as it has topped the list of suppliers since the 2022-2023 season, and its share exceeded half of imports starting from the 2024-2025 season. Spain Morocco's nearest rival, Spain, is far behind, with only 19.1 per cent of British imports, followed by Portugal with 6.5 per cent, Germany with 4.2 per cent, and the Netherlands and South Africa with limited supplies compared to Morocco. Why is the British market based on Moroccan berries? The production calendar explains this Moroccan superiority; British domestic production of raspberries is mainly concentrated between June and November, prompting distributors to adopt more on imports during the rest of the year. Moroccan shipments increase in importance starting in autumn, and continue at a high pace during winter and spring, a period when British domestic supply is declining, enabling Morocco to cover an important part of the market needs when European competitors have reduced their exports. A market expanding to more than £2 billion, this advance comes in the context of continued growth of the berry market in Britain, where more than 85 per cent of British consumers own these red fruits. at an annual growth rate of 4.3 percent. The value of the British berry market for the first time exceeded 2 billion pounds (about 2.34 billion euros) at the beginning of 2025, reflecting the growing weight of this fruit in fruit consumption in the United Kingdom, and opening additional prospects for Moroccan agricultural exports towards this promising market.
