Al Boraq train: 437M DH deal for 5 new Marrakech stations
ONCF has awarded Jet Contractors the contract to build 5 new stations on the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line, for a bid exceeding 437.6 million DH.
Morocco's National Railway Office (ONCF) has awarded the contract to build five new stations on the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail line to Moroccan company Jet Contractors, for a bid of 437,575,645.85 dirhams before tax, around 437.6 million DH. The award follows an open tender referenced 26T053/PLGV, part of a broader ONCF investment programme worth 96 billion DH.
The winning bid exceeds the Office's initial estimate of 385.24 million DH before tax by more than 52.3 million DH, an increase of roughly 13.6% above the project's planned ceiling. Under the open tender rules, the contract goes to the lowest bid that meets the administrative and technical requirements.
Al Boraq train service extends south to Marrakech
The Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line extends the Al Boraq train service south, beyond its current route linking Tangier, Kenitra, Rabat and Casablanca. The new contract covers five stations between Benguerir and Marrakech:
| Station | Line type |
|---|---|
| Benguerir (Green City) | High-speed line |
| Benguerir | Regional express network |
| Sidi Bouothmane | High-speed line |
| Sidi Ghanem | High-speed line |
| Marrakech Stadium | High-speed line |
A company that already built the Tangier and Benslimane stations
This is not Jet Contractors' first contract on the high-speed line project: the company previously built the Tangier high-speed station, and won the contract in March to build the Hassan II Grand Stadium station in Benslimane province, with a bid exceeding 415.5 million DH. It had also previously secured a share of the line's civil works worth two billion DH, according to TelQuel.
A 96-billion-dirham investment programme
The project is part of a wider ONCF investment programme worth 96 billion DH:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line infrastructure | 53 billion DH |
| Purchase of 168 new trains | 29 billion DH |
| Maintaining service quality and the existing network | 14 billion DH |
Expanding the stations on the Kenitra-Marrakech line is among the major projects Morocco is counting on to cut travel time between its biggest cities, as civil works continue along the line, carried out by several Moroccan and international contractors.
