Morocco's Ministry of Equipment and Water launched, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, 11 tenders for the construction of new dams spread across eight provinces of the Kingdom, with an estimated total cost of more than 339.4 million dirhams (MAD). Bid openings are scheduled between November 9 and 16, 2026.

How the 11 projects are distributed across provinces

The new dams are spread across eight Moroccan provinces: Rehamna province has three projects (Dar Et Tnia, Ouled Sidi Daoud and Sidi Said), Taourirt has two (Aguelmame and Issa Ben Amar), while the remaining six provinces - Taroudant, Chefchaouen, Zagora, Boulemane, Figuig and Khouribga - each have one project. The four largest projects by cost - Aourir, Taghzout, Aguelmame and Hyara - account for nearly 50.8% of the programme's total cost.

Why this programme matters to Moroccans

These small and medium-sized dams are part of an ongoing effort to strengthen Morocco's water security in provinces facing water stress and sharp year-to-year rainfall variability. Such structures typically help mobilize surface water resources and supply drinking and irrigation water to local populations. Pending the results of the bid opening scheduled between November 9 and 16, 2026, the final cost of the 11 projects will depend on the competition among bidding companies.
