Wydad AC names Nasreddine Nabi coach, replacing Paulo Sergio
Wydad Athletic Club has appointed Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi to replace Portuguese coach Paulo Sergio until the end of the season.
Wydad Athletic Club has announced the appointment of Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi as head coach of the first team, on a contract running until the end of the 2026-2027 season. Nabi replaces Portuguese coach Paulo Sergio, who left the club by mutual agreement with management after a start to the season that fell short of the expectations of fans of one of the most decorated clubs in Moroccan football.
The split with Paulo Sergio came after just four rounds of the Botola Pro, during which Wydad recorded one win, two draws and one loss, leaving the club in 9th place with only five points — a start widely seen as disappointing given the club's ambitions. Management announced Nabi's arrival just hours after confirming the Portuguese coach's departure.
Who is Nasreddine Nabi?
Nasreddine Nabi is no stranger to Moroccan football: he previously coached AS FAR, leading the club to second place in the league and the Throne Cup final in the 2024-2025 season. The Tunisian coach also had a brief spell at Wydad's fierce rival Raja Casablanca, joining in June 2026 and leading the team for just seven matches before parting ways roughly two and a half months later, over disagreements with the club's sporting management.
His coaching career has also taken him outside Morocco: he managed Young Africans in Tanzania, winning two league titles, as well as Al Ahly Benghazi in Libya, Al-Hilal Omdurman in Sudan and Ismaily in Egypt, before taking charge of Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa. In late 2025, Nabi turned down an offer from the Tunisian Football Federation to coach the national team, choosing to stay on at Kaizer Chiefs instead.
Nabi is expected to begin training sessions with Wydad's squad in the coming days ahead of the next Botola Pro round, with fans eager to see his first appearance on the bench.
