Laram Express, a Royal Air Maroc subsidiary, launched a direct flight between Casablanca and Essaouira on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at a ceremony held at Essaouira-Mogador Airport. The route runs at a fixed, subsidized fare of no more than 400 dirhams one-way in economy class, with two round trips per week.

The flight cuts travel time between the two cities to under an hour, compared with about six hours by road, as part of efforts to strengthen domestic air connectivity and support Essaouira's investment and tourism appeal.

"Airports 2030": affordable air connectivity

The new route is part of the royal "Airports 2030" policy, which aims to strengthen air links between Casablanca and other Moroccan cities, under a partnership bringing together the Ministries of Transport and Logistics, Interior, and Economy and Finance, the Marrakech-Safi region, and Royal Air Maroc. The same partnership covers similar routes linking Casablanca to Ouarzazate, Zagora, Errachidia, Tan-Tan and Guelmim.

Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh said the goal is to "democratize air travel at reasonable prices," adding that Royal Air Maroc is awaiting delivery of new-generation aircraft that would cut the Casablanca-Essaouira flight time to under 30 minutes.

Royal adviser André Azoulay said the new route would boost tourism in Essaouira and across Morocco, calling it a "strong message" to the world about the city's history and civilization. Younes Adbibegha, the regional tourism delegate for Marrakech-Safi, said the new flight makes Essaouira a tourism destination connected to the domestic market and international destinations.

A link to the international network via Casablanca

The new route also connects Essaouira to Royal Air Maroc's national and international network via Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, a major hub for international flights departing from small and medium-sized Moroccan cities. The project is part of Essaouira's bid to diversify its local economy by strengthening its tourism and investment sectors.

The date of the first actual commercial flight on the route has not been officially announced beyond the launch ceremony, while Royal Air Maroc awaits delivery of new aircraft that would further shorten the flight time in the future.
