Morocco's automobile sector held onto its position as the country's top export sector for a third consecutive year in 2025, with exports reaching 159.2 billion dirhams (MAD), according to the Office des Changes' annual foreign trade report. Meanwhile, Europe's share of Morocco's total trade exchanges fell to 59.8%, down from 62% in 2024.

What does the Office des Changes report say?

The annual report shows automobile exports slipped slightly, by about 0.4 billion dirhams compared with 2024, when they reached 159.6 billion dirhams. Despite this limited dip, the sector keeps its top ranking among export sectors for the third year running, underlining the strength of an auto industry built around major assembly plants and integrated industrial ecosystems across several Moroccan cities, as Morocco's economy continues to post positive growth.

Europe's trade share declines

Beyond the automobile figures, the Office des Changes report shows Europe's share of Morocco's overall trade exchanges fell to 59.8% in 2025, from 62% in 2024. According to the Office's breakdown, 54.2% of Moroccan imports originate from Europe, while 69.7% of Moroccan exports are destined for European markets, confirming that Europe remains the Kingdom's leading trade partner despite this relative decline.

Why this report matters to Moroccans

The Office des Changes data has a direct bearing on the Moroccan market: the automobile sector provides significant employment in industrial cities such as Tangier, Kenitra and Casablanca, while Europe's slight decline reflects Morocco's efforts to diversify its export markets toward Africa, the Americas and Asia, rather than relying almost entirely on the European market. Much of this trade passes through the Kingdom's major ports, chief among them Tanger Med, one of the main logistics gateways for Moroccan foreign trade toward Europe and other continents.

This annual report is part of ongoing monitoring of Morocco's foreign trade indicators, which remain among the most important barometers of the national economy's health, given their direct link to the balance of payments and foreign currency reserves, two elements closely watched every year by economic decision-makers when the Office des Changes report is published.
