Morocco's women's U17 national team bowed out of the Women's U17 World Cup it is hosting, losing 6-0 to North Korea on Wednesday evening in a round-of-16 match played at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé.

Morocco's run in the tournament

Morocco had opened the tournament with a comfortable 4-0 win over New Zealand, before losing to Germany (2-4) and then Argentina (1-5), finishing third in Group A with 3 points. Thanks to their ranking among the best third-placed teams, Morocco finished ahead of Venezuela and Canada, securing their spot in the round of 16 against North Korea.

An exit from a tournament hosted at home

With this heavy defeat, Morocco's women's team closes the book on this edition of the Women's U17 World Cup organized by the Kingdom, after a run that took them to the first knockout round despite a tough group featuring Germany and Argentina. No further details on the scorers of the final match or on any statements from Morocco's technical staff were immediately available.

The rest of the round of 16 continues without Morocco, with fixtures pitting China against France, Nigeria against Mexico, Japan against Kenya, and Spain against the United States. The Morocco-North Korea match was played on one of the pitches of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, known for producing Moroccan internationals: one of its pitches is named after Azzedine Ounahi, who trained at the academy before moving to Europe.
