Royal Air Maroc launches 5th weekly São Paulo flight
Royal Air Maroc has launched its fifth weekly flight between Casablanca and São Paulo, ahead of a planned Rio de Janeiro route in 2027.
Royal Air Maroc launched its fifth weekly direct flight between Casablanca and São Paulo on Thursday, operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, as part of a South American expansion plan that includes a new route to Rio de Janeiro by late 2027.
Othman Baba, Royal Air Maroc's regional director for South America, said that "offering more flights means opening Morocco's doors even wider," noting that Casablanca remains a hub connecting Brazil to more than 100 destinations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Weekly flight schedule
The new fifth flight operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from São Paulo, and on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Casablanca:
| Day | Departure from São Paulo | Departure from Casablanca |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | - | ✓ |
| Tuesday | ✓ | ✓ |
| Wednesday | ✓ | ✓ |
| Thursday | ✓ | ✓ |
| Friday | ✓ | - |
| Saturday | - | ✓ |
| Sunday | ✓ | - |
The expansion comes as Morocco welcomed a record 19.8 million foreign tourists in 2025, including around 60,000 Brazilian visitors, up 35% from the previous year. The Casablanca-São Paulo route carried nearly 80,000 passengers in both directions in 2025, with an 84% load factor and 98% punctuality rate.
Broader fleet and network ambitions
The route is part of Royal Air Maroc's 2023-2037 plan, which targets a fleet of 200 aircraft and 32 million passengers a year, up from just 7.5 million in 2024. The airline had earlier this year announced plans to raise São Paulo frequency to 5-6 weekly flights, calling it a necessary step before considering reopening the Rio de Janeiro route, which has been suspended since the early 1990s.
The carrier is counting on sustained demand driven mainly by tourism and family visits, along with growing business travel linked to agribusiness and energy trade between Morocco and Brazil, as Casablanca prepares to welcome daily flights from São Paulo by 2028.
